WIRE — Madalitso Band, the duo of Yosefe Kalekeni and Yobu Maligwa sets out to hold gigs in Japan and South Korea having concluded concerts in Canada. The group which left the country in May this year and returns home later this month started its tour in Europe before heading to Canada. "We have two concerts in South Korea and three in Japan," the group's manager Neil Nayar, said Thursday. He said their debut outing in Canada; saw them getting opportunities of performances at two big folk festivals (Calgary and Edmonton) and three small shows in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver on Salt spring Island. "The Canadian folk festival is set up differently. You have one main show and two sessions. The sessions are a way to collaborate and share the stage with artists," Nayar, who is also a musician, said. He said they made connections with artists such as Daby Toure, Julian Taylor and Arrested Development. "Arrested Development was one of the pioneering hip hop bands in the 80s and 90s who brought jazz sound to hip hop," Nayar said. The group from the outskirts of Mtandire in Lilongwe which used to perform in the streets is also expected to perform at Lake of Stars Festival at Fish Eagle Bay in Nkhota-kota next month.
