Dyna Queens displayed a solid performance as they clinched the 2026 Central Region Mukuru Under-21 Netball Cup after beating Young Eagles 41-38 at Kamuzu Institute for Sports (KIS) in Lilongwe on Sunday. Dyna have qualified for Mukuru Under-21 Netball Cup national finals to be staged in Blantyre at a date yet to be announced. Despite the loss, Eagles also booked their place at the national finals alongside Belinda Sisters after the latter finished third having beaten Kalulu Queens 30-25 in the third place play offs. The three teams will compete with other teams from Southern, Eastern and Northern Regions for the ultimate prize at a date yet to be announced. Meanwhile, Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) Regional Sports Development Officer-centre Susan Mbenjere has appealed to companies to invest more resources into grassroots netball. "We have a lot of talented netball players in the country but they lack enough support. We appeal to companies to sponsor netball to promote the game," she said. Mbenjere hailed Mukuru for supporting the growth of netball in the country. Mukuru Head of Sales Wandikuza Chakanika said the company was proud to support the growth of netball. "We are glad that we achieved our purpose of providing a good platform for girls to showcase their skills and talent," he said. Mukuru ended their 14-month partnership with Nam. The company signed a K675 million deal with Nam for youth development and Under-21 national team. On her part, Netball Association of Malawi ( Nam) treasurer Cecilia Mtukule Bondwe hailed Mukuru for supporting netball. "We really appreciate what Mukuru has done. It is our hope that they will come back one day," she said. Northern Region is expected to identify its representatives this coming weekend.
