WIRE — Madalitso and Alleluya bands continue to make strides outside the country and have to this far held over 50 gigs each before their return this month. The two bands left the country separately in May and have been engaged in shows and other activities. Madalitso Band, the duo of Yosefe Kalekeni and Yobu Maligwa has held performances in France and United Kingdom among others, before making their debut outing in Canada last weekend. Co-manager Neil Nayar said Thursday they have had fruitful gigs in Europe before their performances in Canada. "It has been a good outing, flying Malawi's flag; we are excited and looking forward to more of such performances," Nayar, who is also a musician, said. The group which is expected to perform at this year's Lake of Stars Festival is also set to perform in South Korea and Japan with five gigs lined up before coming back on August 29 2026. In Italy, Alleluya Band has held 59 gigs with the last show Saturday. "It has been a great outing because we have managed to utilise the performances to raise funds for different projects at Andiamo. We also had a special meeting with the Pope," Alleluya Band leader Paul Subili said. The group is expected back home on August 11 2026. He said upon their arrival in August, they will continue with preparations for the golden jubilee of Father Mario Pacific, one of the founders of Alleluya Band. "We will also commence preparations for our 50th anniversary next year," Subili said.
