Queens shift focus to Africa, World Cup

"We are immensely proud of the Malawi Queens. Throughout the Commonwealth Games, they represented our nation with dignity, passion and determination. Every performance reflected the progress that has been made through the rebuilding programme. "This campaign has shown that Malawi possesses the talent, character and potential to compete with the very best in world netball. At Nico Group, our vision has always extended beyond one tournament or one generation of players," Mlia Ndasauka said. She reaffirmed the group's commitment to the cause. "We are committed to rebuilding an entire netball ecosystem—one that develops talent from communities across Malawi, strengthens our domestic competitions and consistently produces world-class athletes. The progress we have witnessed at the Commonwealth Games gives us every reason to believe that the future of Malawi netball is exceptionally bright," she said. On her part, Queens coach Deborah Fuller said the team showed great character during the tournament. "Our next challenge must be to break through to the top 6," she said. Malawi Queens finished seventh after beating Scotland 54-47 in the classification match. Malawi opened their campaign with a 65-44 defeat to South Africa before bouncing back with a 64-48 victory over Northern Ireland. They then suffered a 68-32 loss to world number one side Australia and a heavy 73- 38 defeat to England.
