By Llywellenie Mpasa: Malawi National Netball Team has achieved its seventh-place finish at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after defeating hosts Scotland 54-47 in Glasgow. The Queens produced a composed, determined and spirited performance to overcome the home side and hit the target Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) had set before the tournament. Malawi maintained composure throughout the contest, limiting the hosts' chances while capitalising on key scoring opportunities to close out the victory and finish their campaign on a high note. The Queens were dominant with a 17-12 scoreline at the end of the first quarter, extending the advantage to 30-23 at half-time. The third quarter ended 12- all before Malawi sealed victory in the final period. Nam President Vitumbiko Gubuduza said the result would help improve the country's standing in world netball. "We needed to finish not lower than seventh at the Games. The team has the quality, experience and determination to compete with the best. We wanted to improve our world ranking and demonstrate that Malawi remains one of the strongest netball nations," she said. The Queens began the tournament with a 65-44 defeat to South Africa before bouncing back with a convincing 64-48 victory over Northern Ireland. They continued their resurgence by beating Tonga 55-49 in the group stages to qualify for the classification matches. Nam expressed satisfaction with the performance on its Facebook page.
