WIRE — The Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, will start the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers against South Sudan at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe City in September. According to the Confederation of African Football (Caf) fixture released on Sunday, the Flames will face South Sudan at home before traveling to Angola for the second-round matches between September 21 and October 6. Malawi will then meet Egypt's Pharaohs in back-to-back fixtures in November. The Flames will meet Egypt away before hosting Egypt at BNS in Lilongwe between November 9 and 17, 2026. Malawi will meet South Sudan away before wrapping up the qualifiers with a home match against Angola in March next year. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Afcon finals. Malawi did not qualify for the previous two editions held in Ivory Coast and Morocco. The Flames last qualified for the Afcon finals in Cameroon in 2021 and reached their first-ever round of 16.
