WIRE โ€” Nico Group has praised Ascent Soccer Academy for their outstanding performance in two international tournaments in Europe. The academy's Under-16 girls and Under-14 teams reached the finals of the just ended Rey Cup in Sweden. In an interview Sunday, Nico Group Head of Marketing and Customer Experience Taweni Gondwe Xaba said the teams performed beyond expectations. "Watching these girls reach the final is a special moment for all of us. To earn the chance to play Bayern Munich, one of the biggest names in world football, speaks volumes about how far they have come and what they are capable of achieving. "We, at Nico Group, are delighted to be part of this journey and [are also proud] to see young Malawian talent competing with the very best. These girls have already given the country something to celebrate and have shown what is possible when talent is nurtured and given the opportunity to shine," she said. The company unveiled a K900 million three-year sponsorship package for Ascent three weeks ago. Ascent Operations Director Thom Mkolongo said he was excited with both teams' performance. "The boys and girls showed great character throughout the tournaments," he said. The teams reached the Round-of-16 stage at the Gothia Cup in Sweden.
