WIRE โ€” The Malawi Women's National Football Team will be on revenge mission when it faces Morocco's Atlas Lionesses in an international friendly match in Rabat this evening. The match is part of preparations for the TotalEnergies Caf Women's Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) finals, which are scheduled for July 25 to August 16 in Morocco. This will be the second meeting between the two sides as the Scorchers lost 4-2 to Morocco at Kenitra Stadium in Casablanca last year. The match could be a perfect opportunity for the Scorchers to avenge the defeat. Additionally, Malawi will be looking to return to winning ways after three consecutive defeats in four matches. Malawi last won a match when they beat Angola 1-0 at the Cosafa Women's Championship in South Africa in January this year. Since then, Malawi has lost 5-0 to Australia and 3-2 to India at the Fifa Women's Series in Nairobi, Kenya, in April. Malawi lost 1-0 to Tanzania's Twiga Stars before a goal-less stalemate in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, last month. Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili said the match would be a chance to try new combinations ahead of the Wafcon finals. "I am sure players are going to give us good results," he said. Fazili said morale was high in camp. "Morale is high; everybody is good and ready for the match. The weather is also similar to that of Malawi," he said. Currently, Fazili has 21 players in camp as Temwa Chawinga and Portugal-based Asimenye Simwaka are yet to join the squad. Temwa is scheduled to arrive in Rabat on July 20. Chisomo Banda, midfielder Lyna James and Tendai Sani have been recalled after they were dropped from the initial 23-member Wafcon finals squad. Malawi will start their Wafcon finals campaign against Nigeria at Al Madina Stadium on July 28 before meeting Egypt at Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat four day later. Malawi will face Zambia at Al Madina Stadium on August 5.
