WIRE โ By Innocent Kalikokha: Seven people were Monday fined between K400,000 and K600,000 for perpetuating manhood removal claims. The sentences, which the Nsanje Second Grade Magistrate Court meted out, followed the people's conviction after they pleaded guilty to the charge. The court convicted the people on June 29 this year, when they were found to have contravened Section 60 of the Penal Code. During sentencing, Second Grade Magistrate Haneef Ngundende said the convicts claimed that their genitals had been stolen in different places without any supporting medical evidence. "Upon examination by physicians, your genitals were found to be intact," Ngundende said. He then ordered Clement Thede and Bonface Beka to pay K600,000 each or, in default, spend two years in prison. Shadrick Sande was ordered to pay K500,000 or, in default, serve one year and six months in prison. The court also ordered Owen Chandendema, Yotamu Ephraim, Jeremiah Yesaya and Nelson Andiseni to pay K400,000 each or, in default, serve one year and six months in prison. On July 1 this year, South East Region Police spokesperson Edward Kabango told this publication that the prosecution team was handling cases involving individuals arrested in Nsanje before proceeding to Chikwawa District. Kabango said murder suspects were committed to the High Court. "Regarding the prosecution of murder suspects, the team is waiting for the High Court," he said. The false genitalia disappearance rumours led to the deaths of eight innocent people in the Shire Valley, prompting police to arrest hordes of people.
