WIRE โ€” Hearing of the case involving the killing of medical doctor Victoria Bobe continued Wednesday, with a police officer, the third state witness, narrating how law enforcers tracked down the suspects. Regional Police Detective Christopher Pangeti told the court how the seven accused allegedly committed the crime and how police arrested them. Pangeti said they visited the crime scene the morning after the incident and gathered information that helped them identify possible suspects. "We found that the suspects had drilled a hole in a brick fence through which they gained entry into the house. They then broke the main door using crowbars and managed to get inside. We also found bullet pellets and pieces of a scar in the bedroom where she was shot dead," he said. Pangeti said the evidence at the scene suggested that the suspects were experienced in committing such crimes. The officer told the court that they went to BCA in Blantyre to meet the third accused, Abdul Raffick Hassan, whom they suspected of being involved in the crime due to his history of similar offences. He said Hassan helped police arrest other suspects and that investigations revealed some of them had previously been convicted of robbery cases in Blantyre and Zomba. Pangeti said they arrested seven suspects, including a security guard at the house. He told the court that the first accused, Charles Chikafa, informed police that they had been "given business" by the security guard, who allegedly told them that the Bobes were keeping dollars in the house. Meanwhile, presiding Judge Ruth Chinangwa adjourned the case to this afternoon to allow the State to transcribe the video clip presented as part of the evidence. When the case resumes, Pangeti is expected to be cross-examined by lawyers representing the accused and later re-examined by the State.
