WIRE โ By Jimmy Chazama: Celebrated musician Patience Namadingo's fundraising drive set to repatriate stranded Malawians back home has made strides raising K30 million in about 50 hours. More than 9,000 Malawians have come in to make their contributions toward the cause. The award winning musician famed for tracks such as 'Tuli' has since said the money would be handed over to social media influencer Stanley Onjezani Kenani Tuesday. Kenani has been on the ground with the campaign of repatriating Malawians in South Africa, who are stuck following violent attacks on both documented and undocumented foreign nationals. Namadingo has set a weekly target of K30 million until those stranded in South Africa return home, with the overall target being K1 billion. "Our first donation to Mr Onjezani Kenani will be done on Tuesday (tomorrow), K30 million collected from over 9,000 Malawians in less than 50hrs of live streaming," the artist said on his Facebook page. The artist said Sunday that he was happy to play a part in helping fellow Malawians, who are stuck in South Africa to come back home. "I would like to say thank you to Malawians who continue to make donations. Let us continue to donate this until we bring all the stranded Malawians home," he said. Namadingo said this means with his team still need to work extra hard to hit the target. Malawians including Kenani have since hailed Namadingo for the initiative and the approach. "Thank you very much son of the soil. I have K27 million in my account. With your donation, it means we could have about K52.5 million, which could bring in two more buses," Kenani, who is working with other volunteers, said.
