WIRE โ€” By Bernard Mhone: Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Fleetwood Haiya has said he is not surprised with endorsements from some of the association's affiliates ahead of the body's elections. The elections are slated for December 2027. Haiya has, so far, been nominated by Beach Soccer Association, Central Region Football Association and Northern Region Football Association (NRFA). The country's football governing body president made the remarks after securing a third nomination on Saturday during the launch of the K70 million Chiwemi Investment NRFA League One aย  Chiwaza in Nkhata Bay District. "These associations and individuals have soon my leadership through the football transformative agenda. We have achieved a lot in developing the game together and we must continue together. "We managed to secure sponsorships, increase subventions and have developed our strategic plan. They have seen all these developments and I am not surprised that they have chosen me over others, if there are any," Haiya said. Masina Nyasulu On his part, NRFA Chairperson Masiya Nyasulu said Haiya deserved another term to continue developing the game. He said NRFA agreed to nominate Haiya at Fam's annual general meeting held in Salima. "Looking at the strides we are making on football development, we feel Haiya is the right candidate to take us to another level of developing the game in Malawi. The elections are still far [from now] but we need to have a candidate and there is no room for other candidates in the Fam presidency," Nyasulu said. Meanwhile, sports analyst Bravo Chiperesa has asked other candidates to declare their candidature for the affiliates to have comparative analysis before endorsement. "Next year is not far but some candidates are not declaring their interest [in the election], which is bad. Let them come out. An incumbent president always has an upper hand and I am not surprised with these endorsements," Chiperesa said. Haiya won Fam presidency in 2023 after defeating Walter Nyamilandu Manda by 23 votes to 13.
