WIRE โ Silver Strikers Ladies are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations for the 2026 Caf Women's Champions League Cosafa qualifiers. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 6 to 15 in Botswana. As part of preparations, Silver Ladies held a weeklong training camp in Lilongwe. Silver Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba said the team has stepped up preparations ahead of their maiden appearance at the regional showpiece. "We are coming from a week-long camp in preparation for the same tournament," Chimimba said. The team qualified for the CAF Women's Champions League Cosafa Qualifiers after winning the inaugural NBM Women's Premiership. Silver Ladies coach Andrew Chikhosi said he will strengthen the squad with three players. "We have a good squad but we need to add experienced players. We are looking for a defender, midfielder and striker to withstand the heat at international level," he said. The Bankers Ladies will become the third Malawian women's football club to participate in the competition after Kukoma Ntopwa Women's and Ascent Soccer Academy. Ntopwa have participated twice in 2023 and 2025 while Ascent took part in 2024. Both teams failed to progress beyond the group stages. Cosafa has confirmed that the 2026 edition will take place in Botswana from August 6 to 15. It will be the second time the competition is hosted outside South Africa after Malawi hosted the 2024 edition at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre. Reigning Cosafa champions Gaborone United Ladies will defend their title on home soil after beating Zesco Ndola Girls 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at UJ Soweto Stadium in Johannesburg last year. Gaborone United Ladies became the fourth different winners of the Cosafa qualifiers after Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, Green Buffaloes and University of the Western Cape.
