WIRE — Museums in Rome open for Ferragosto 2026. Italy's state museums, archaeological sites, galleries and historic villas will open on the Ferragosto public holiday on Saturday 15 August, the culture ministry has confirmed. The ministry has stressed that the initiative is not part of Italy's free museum openings and that the usual admission fees will apply. State-run cultural and historic sites will open during normal opening hours on 15 August, as well as on Sunday 16 August, with advance booking where required on both days. Major landmarks staying open in Italy include the Colosseum, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Reggia di Caserta, Castel Sant'Angelo and the Pantheon, with the full list available to consult online. In Rome the offer includes Galleria Spada and Palazzo Barberini, while for a day trip outside the capital Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola will be open as will Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli. Rome's city-run museums will also be open on Saturday 15 August, including the Capitoline Museums, Ara Pacis and Trajan's Markets.
